Vision
For every Christian to resound with the rich heritage of our faith.
Mission Statement
Resound is an adult catechetical school where students of various Christian traditions learn the doctrines of the Nicene faith and the story of God’s people throughout the ages.
Values
As an institution, Resound values:
- Ecumenism
- Spiritual formation
- Evangelism
Concerning ecumenism, we aim to give our students access to resources from a broad variety of theological traditions that are consistent with our Statement of Faith.
Concerning spiritual formation, we strive for transformation by encouraging the integration of education, spiritual disciplines, and community engagement.
Concerning evangelism, we educate to prepare our students to share the gospel message in hopes of converting the lost to Christ.
Commitments
Each member of Resound–students and faculty alike–commit to the following:
- I commit to take personal responsibility for my spiritual state
- I commit to earnestly strive to be a person of godly character, as defined by the ethical imperatives of the New testament
- I commit to continually grow in my knowledge of the Christian faith
- I commit to the ongoing development of my spiritual skillset: my spiritual gift(s) and the exercise of spiritual disciplines
- I commit to regularly attend and participate in the life of a local church that worships the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
- I commit to receive the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s supper with proper reverence
- I commit to tolerate theological diversity where such does not violate our Statement of Faith
Statement of Faith
AFFIRMATIONS: Every teacher at Resound must affirm the Nicene Creed—
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.
Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]1; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins2; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Anyone who denies the Nicene creed cannot properly be called “Christian.”
DENIALS: Every teacher at Resound must deny the following heresies—
- Antinomianism: One can refuse to submit to God’s commands and be saved
- Ebionism: The ceremonial and judicial laws of Moses are necessary for salvation
- Marcionism: Some portion of the Proto-cannonical books or the New testament is not divinely-authored or authoritative
- Montanism: There are universally-binding revelations from the Holy Spirit that cannot be found in the Proto-cannonical books, the New Testament, Sacred tradition, or Magisterial teachings
- (Additions named by the Board of Directors)
Anyone who affirms or teaches these heresies endangers his or her own soul or the souls of others.
- Some leaders do not affirm “and the Son,” also known as “the filioque”
- Some leaders understand “one baptism for the remission of sins” as baptismal regeneration, and others do not. Both positions are acceptable as long as our sixth commitment is affirmed.
